After our last crazy storm and all the mud that my kids made in the backyard – it was time to do something about it. We had a huge section of yard that had absolutely no grass. Our kids play here all the time and we have had a hard time getting grass to grown there. After having mud everywhere, everytime it rained, I had had enough and we got some new sod to lay down.
My brother works for the city and he had about 7 rolls that were going to go to waste, so he let me have them, and then I bought 10 more rolls to cover the area. It only cost me about $30 – what a difference it makes though.
I had just finished laying the sod, when a crazy storm rolled in. I have never seen so much rain/hail come down so quickly. The street in front of our house always seems to flood when it rains like that, but this was the worst I had ever seen it.
We were amazed at how high the water came up on our lawn. It was like having a lake right outside our front door.
We ended up sandbagging this basement window. The level of the water wasn’t quite that high, but whenever someone would drive through the water, the waves would start lapping up pretty much to the window.
I don’t know why Grace wanted to take her bike out, but this shows how high it was on the sidewalk – the road is about 3-4 inches deeper!
My nice new lawn got covered, but it melted pretty quickly and I think it will still stand a chance at lasting a little longer—I hope!!
