Conversation with a 6 year old

This morning we had pancakes for breakfast.  I am not sure why it is so hard for Rebecca to cut her pancakes, but she really struggles with this.  Only for me though -- if one of her aunts or her grandma were the ones making the pancakes, and I (her own mom) was not around, she could cut them with no problem.  This morning, she once again asked if I would cut her pancakes for her, and I decided to pick my battles and give in.  The following conversation made it all worthwhile though!

Rebecca: Mom, will you cut my pancakes, please?
Mom: Of course, Rebecca.  I will always cut your pancakes for you.  Forever and ever.
Rebecca:  Even when I am a grown-up?
Mom: Even when you are a grown-up.
Rebecca:  What about when I have kids?
Mom:  Don't worry, I'll come  to your house and cut their pancakes too.
Rebecca:  What if you are dead?
Mom:  Hmmmm..... What do you think?
Rebecca:  Will you invite me to your funeral?
Anna:  Of course she will -- you are related!
Rebecca:  I am going to bring a plate of cut up pancakes to your funeral and say, "She was the best pancake cutter EVER!" (fake sobbing with a big smile at the end!)

Totally made my day!!

Tea Party

Matt took Grace and Anna to a baseball game tonight and while they were away, Becky, Sarah, Gideon and I had a little tea party.  We had fun drinking our "tea" (water) from our little cups and eating our oreo cookies for a treat!

And of course had to add a little craziness into the mix too!

A new haircut and a little duck.

Sarah decided to get close and personal with a pair of scissors and this is what she ended up with.  I was a little sad at first because Sarah had such beautiful curls, but I have really ended up liking this look on her.  It is so easy to take care of!

I wish I would have taken a video of this because it was so cute to watch.  Gideon decided that he was going to be a little duck and waddled all around the kitchen.  What a funny boy!

Sarah's 4th Birthday - Part 2

Sarah was excited to share her birthday with a couple of her cousins and Grandma and Grandpa Murray.  She loved her new bunny and her new clothes!

Happy Birthday Sarah!!

Sarah's birthday finally came!

Sarah has been not-so-patiently waiting for her birthday since Gideon had his birthday -- last September!!  She asked me pretty much every other day if it was her birthday yet, so it was a long wait for her and for me!  Her day finally came today and she was pretty excited!  It has been a great week already for her as she had the primary sing to her on Sunday, and then all her preschool friends sing to her yesterday in class.
Sarah requested chocolate smoothies for breakfast and enjoyed hers in a fancy cup!

Sarah and Becky have become really good little playmates lately -- I love that they love each other so much!
We had a little party this morning with her cousins -- glad she didn't notice that there was only one candle and not 4!

We had a fun table-full of little guests!
What girl doesn't love a new pair of shoes!
And a new dressing table as well.  It was hard to get a good picture of it with the crowd of kids.  All in all it was a great birthday.  I just hope that she doesn't start asking about her next birthday anytime soon!   Sarah has been such a fun little girl and we are always on our toes trying to keep up with her.  She loves to go to school and is learning to love Sunbeams.  She is actually really good as long as I am not in the room, which doesn't work so great when I am trying to teach the primary during singing time.  Fun times!  Sarah loves to snuggle at bedtime, and is trying really hard to learn to stay in her own bed all night.  Sarah loves to laugh and loves playing with Gideon and her older sisters too.  Sarah can tease and torment with the best of them, and is starting to communicate a little better too.  We sure love having her in our home -- it wouldn't be the same without her!

Our Funny Boy

Oh my goodness, what a funny little boy Gideon is!  He is really coming up with some funny things that make my days so much fun!

He is learning how to do a sommersault, so we find him like this quite often.

Playing outside without a shirt on --- in the middle of February!

Looking for something to eat -- once again not wearing much for clothing.  Can you see a theme going here???

Gid's favorite spot to chill out and watch some TV

I guess today kind of wore him out!  HAHAHAHA!!!!

Either that or the sugar high finally came crashing down!

I think he enjoyed his fair share.....
Boy we sure do love this kid!!

An I wish I had a camera with me sort of day.

We had such a full busy day today and I found myself wishing I had my camera with me multiple times.  So, I guess the next best thing is to write it all down and hope my memory will be able to remember it all.

I was asked to be a driver for Anna's field trip to the Helen Schular Nature Center this morning and I was told it was OK to bring Gideon and Sarah with me.  I love hearing the surprise in the voices of people when they hear how many kids I can take in my van!!  So I loaded up all the kids and took them to school and then loaded up a van full of Anna's classmates and made the drive to the nature centre.  As expected, Gideon didn't want to sit on a mat and listen to the group leader discuss animals during the winter, so I spent that time with him out in their display area.  They have a crow that lives in the nature center that they rescued as a baby.  It had fallen out of her nest and broken her leg and once it was healed, she had become so accustomed to being around humans, she never would have survived out in the wild.  She gets to wander around the center during the mornings and then goes into a large cage when there are people around.  This morning, though, Gideon got to get up close and personal with her and even got to pet this bird -- it was really cute.  We were able to see a little cottontail bunny and lots of birds feeding at the bird feeders outside through the windows too.  The kids from the group all went outside for a while too, looking for deer trails and evidence of animals eating the bark from the trees and playing animal guessing games with their teacher.

The thing that surprised me this morning was Sarah.  She spent the whole 2 hours we were there with the group of kids!  Two girls from Anna's class thought Sarah was the cutest little girl and held her hands and sat with her all morning.  The amazing thing was that Sarah sat still, listened and was quiet -- ALL MORNING!!

We headed back around lunch time and then Sarah and Gideon had a little lunch and a half an hour of downtime with Dora before it was time for Sarah to head to pre-school.  I knew Gideon was tired because of the busy morning and all the running around he did outside, but I really needed groceries, so I headed to the store as soon as we had dropped off Sarah.  We were hardly 2 minutes down the road before he was fast asleep, but I figured I would let him have a little catnap while I filled up the van with gas and hoped that he wouldn't be too much of a bear when we had to go in for groceries.  I got to the store and he was fast asleep, so I pulled him out of his chair and laid him down in the bottom of the cart with my grocery bags for a pillow.  This poor little boy must have been absolutely exhausted because he slept the entire time!  I had $160 worth of groceries piled all around and under him and he didn't even flinch.  In fact, he slept through me putting him back into the van and all the way home too!!  It was kind of funny all the comments I got and was definitely worthy of a picture!

We had a nice afternoon/evening too.  The kids were all in somewhat of a good mood, supper was a super easy BBQ hot dogs and we had everything made, eaten and cleaned up by 6:10pm.  It was so nice to have some time to just relax and enjoy the evening without rushing to be somewhere as soon as supper is done.  Definitely a day to remember -- whether I had a camera with me or not!
