Preschool Picnic

It’s hard to believe that this crazy school year is coming to an end.  Gideon and Sarah both had their year end picnics this week.  Gideon’s was on Wednesday night and we had a great time down at Pavan Park and enjoyed some great weather.  Just as we were about to leave, it started raining, but we made it through the picnic with sunshine.

Sarah’s picnic was the next night, but since it hadn’t stopped raining since the night before, we had to be relocated to the preschool.  The kids still had fun playing and it was another fun night.

Sharing our Talents???

Our family got asked to sing in church today for the special musical number.  This is quite a common occurrence for us (fortunately/unfortunately), whether it's just the older girls, or all of us, and so I, of course, agreed.  We were asked to sing "Follow The Prophet", and I groaned under my breath a little bit.  Not only is it a super fun primary song to sing, but it also has 9 verses --- hurray!! (Insert sarcasm here....)  We decided to only do the first two verses, and the last two verses, and I should have know by the way our "rehearsal" went last week and this morning, that things would turn out really well.  I just kept thinking to myself that the worse the rehearsal is, the better the performance is.  Not quite so in this case.  First, Matt got called into work, so I was on my own with all the kids.  Then, the first speaker had quite a long talk (think 25-30min), and by the time it was our turn to perform, Sarah was long past being reverent and was saying she didn't want to sing at all.  When she told me she had to go to the bathroom, I didn't hesitate letting her go -- all on her own -- even though I knew there was only a couple of minutes to go.  Secretly I was hoping that she wouldn't make it back in time, and I wouldn't have to deal with her up on the stand when she really didn't want to be there anyway.  What I didn't know, was that Matt had taken a few minutes from his work to come and sing with us, then saw Sarah coming out of the chapel, and then proceeded to help her quickly go to the bathroom, and then have both of them join us for our musical number --- AFTER we had already started singing!  So, add Sarah up on the same small stool to stand on, throw in some pushing and shoving, mix in some grabbing the microphone for good measure, and then you have me having to pick up Gideon, and all of us forgetting most of the third verse, and we have a winner of a musical number!  Surprisingly enough -- we got a lot of compliments, and a few chuckles too.  A song and a show in the middle of sacrament meeting -- what more could you ask for??? ;)

May Long Weekend

For the last couple of years we have joined a family from our ward on the May Long Weekend and gone camping in Waterton.  This year, I stayed home with Gideon and Sarah – they don’t sleep well in a tent and it is a lot of work to take them along, so I got to sleep in my bed and Matt took the other four kids with him – Win/Win!!  The older kids have a great time – there are lots of other kids there and lots of things to do.  They loved sitting around the campfire playing “Big Bootie”.

Mother’s Day Tea

The preschool puts on a lovely Mother’s Day Tea and all the kids get to bring their Mom’s to school and sing to them and have a snack and do a craft with them.  I was lucky enough to get to go twice!

Gideon was super funny that day and made me laugh at all his crazy antics.  He sure loved having his cousin Bryan in the same class with him!
